How to Build Self Confidence

It can be tough to feel like you are at your best all of the time. Sometimes, total confidence seems further away than you’d like it to be.

But there is no need to stay in this slump! Everyone can feel down at times, and it is very common to struggle with feeling fully confident. There are many things to try to lift yourself up and get back to feeling like the confident star that you are.

Methods to Try:

1. Daily Affirmations.

Every morning, when you wake up, take the time to try out positive affirmations. Look at yourself in a mirror, and state those affirmations until you finally feel like you can believe them. It will motivate you and start the day off with a boost of positivity. Here are some examples of affirmations to try:

  • I am growing and learning every day.
  • I am confident and value myself.
  • I grow with every challenge.
  • I believe in myself and my skills.
  • I have the power to change the world.
  • I am enough.
  • I am worthy of having what I want.
  • I am brave enough and strong enough to tackle life’s challenges.

2. Engage in What You Are Good At.

Focus on your strengths and the things you already know you are capable of. When you work on things you are already good at, you can boost your confidence and see that you have talent.

3. Create an Empowering Playlist.

Music is a great way to get your spirits up. If you play music that’s about being your best self and thriving, you can pull from that energy and build yourself up. You could consider playing that playlist when you have a challenging task to overcome or just when you are feeling under the weather.

4. Self-Care.

Feeling confident in yourself goes hand in hand with taking care of yourself. To be the best version of yourself, you must raise yourself up to that standard. You may be busy and feel like you don’t have the opportunity, but creating that time for yourself is essential. Sometimes it is okay to spoil yourself, especially when it can help you feel better about your self-image and confidence.

5. Try Something New.

Learning a new hobby or task can be very empowering. Take a cooking class or watch videos on how to knit. When you are able to do that new hobby all on your own, you can take the time to appreciate your skills and learning ability. And it may create the time you need to begin feeling more confident in yourself. Embracing the change and new activity could be a light way to embrace the change in your life. It isn’t always easy to love yourself as you are going through changes and experiencing life’s obstacles.

6. Consider Some Self-Compassion.

Understanding and empathizing with yourself is key. Sometimes your strength and confidence are damaged because of the way you criticize yourself. Most people are the hardest on themselves compared to anyone else. Give yourself a break, and fight the negative thoughts, rather than just accepting them as fact. It isn’t always easy to stay positive, but you owe it to yourself to try.

7. Take Risk.

You may find that you are the one holding yourself back. Going for something bold or risky could pay off and be a great boost to your inner confidence. You may just be underestimating yourself and the things that you can accomplish. Stay brave and face the fears in your life since you are the only one who can push past them. You’ll never know if someone will work out until you take the leap of faith to go for it.

8. Create a Positive Inner Circle.

If you want to feel confident, you can’t have a lot of people in your life who aim to tear you down. Even if they don’t directly point out your flaws or hurt you, their negativity will be enough to bring your mentality to a darker place. Try to create some space and distance between those who don’t make you feel great after talking with them. Instead, surround yourself with the ones who make you feel good about yourself and support you in life.

9. Try to Smile More Often.

Smiling may not feel like the easiest task, especially if you feel great about your smile. But faking that smile will bring you a step closer to feeling the meaning behind it. Sometimes you have to fake confidence to build it. Of course, you don’t want to seem arrogant or too cocky. Just focus on yourself, and try to smile more often.

10. Empower Yourself.

Knowledge is a great way to build up confidence. Staying in the light on various topics is empowering and will benefit you and your brain. You will get to spend time educating yourself while getting your spunk back! There isn’t a single thing that can bring you the kind of confidence that being the smartest person in the room brings.

11. Try a New Look.

When things aren’t working out with your current self, it may be time to shoot for some self-improvements. Whatever makes it easier for you to feel good about yourself is what you should work towards. Perhaps it is time to dye your hair, get a piercing, or try some temporary tattoos. Changing up one small look or two could be a great step to loving you and all of the changes you go through. The point is that this change will be in your control.

12. Work Out.

Exercise is a great way to feel accomplished while doing a healthy thing for your body. It’s important to work out to feel good, not push yourself past the break-in of your abilities. This will also help you connect your mind and body and find a peaceful balance between the two. It could even be a simple ten-minute exercise a day, just to get the blood flowing better.

13. Try Channeling Nerves Into Excitement.

When you begin to feel anxious or nervous because of your insecurities, try to channel those nerves into a more exciting feeling. If you believe you don’t have the abilities to accomplish a task that you have been put up to, try to see it as an opportunity to succeed or learn from your mistakes. Excitement is a powerful emotion to fill yourself with, as it will build a positive circle around the things you may be afraid of.

14. Celebrate Your Accomplishments.

No matter how big or small, every win you achieve should be celebrated in some way. Maybe you treat yourself to a nice shopping spree or go out with some friends. You deserve to recognize the victories in your life. Life isn’t easy, and the wonderful glimpses of positivity should be remembered and loved.

15. Stand up for Yourself.

Whether you criticize yourself, or it’s someone else around you, it shouldn’t be happening. Stand up for who you are, and don’t let someone make you feel like you are worth less than you are. No one should get to belittle you, and someone has to put them in their place. Positivity can’t be spread when the negative ones get to walk all over everyone around them.

Takeaway

The world doesn’t always want you to be confident and empowered at all times. A lot of people thrive off of pushing others down. So you must learn to depend on yourself to get back up and lift yourself and the ones around you.

No matter what, you deserve to learn your worth. There is no good reason for you to struggle with staying confident. It may be time to finally embark on the journey of learning to love yourself. It’s never too late to teach yourself, and you will see that the effects of your confidence will rub off on the others around you.

Spend time with yourself, and take the time and effort to try some of the methods listed above, as they could greatly improve your life. Each one is simple and something you can try all on your own. You will never be able to get out of the slump you are in until you start working towards breaking free from it.

It is always important to focus on the positivity you hold. Staying positive will help you combat the doubts and fears deep down and will be useful to get through the day. For every problem you face, there is a positive outlook to be found.
